170 Years of Tradition

Coolard Mixed National School is a co-educational primary school situated in the parish of Ballydonoghue. The school is situated 4km from Lisselton Cross and 5km from the town of Listowel. Education has been provided at Coolard for over 170 years. The school is under the patronage of the Catholic Bishop of Kerry and offers a full range of classes from Junior Infants to Sixth Class.

A mixed National School

The school is funded by the Department of Education and is governed by a Board of Management in accordance with the rules of the Department of Education and Skills.

Coolard Mixed National School is a happy, child-centred, friendly school. The staff is committed to the development of each pupil to their full potential. The school provides a supportive environment for pupils, parents and staff.

The school aims to:

The mission of Coolard National School is to provide education of the highest quality to enable each and every child to live a full life as a child and to realise his or her full potential, to develop as a social being contributing to the good of society and to be ready for further education and lifelong learning.

In the pursuit of this mission Coolard National School will endeavour:

  • To deliver the Revised Primary School Curriculum as effectively as possible and to take cognizance of the general objectives of that curriculum.
  • To help each child develop spiritual, moral and religious values.
  • To help each child to develop a respect for cultural difference, an appreciation of civic responsibility and an understanding of the social dimension of life, past and present.
  • To help the child to develop and express himself or herself physically and to appreciate the importance of health and well-being.
